Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Old San Juan and Sitio Histórico de San Juan. Head to Plaza Las Americas and Puerto Rican Art & Craftsfor plenty of shopping. Change things up with these side-trips from San Juan: El Yunque Rain Forest (in El Yunque National Forest) and Caribbean Trading Company Store (in Palmer). Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Take a break from the city and head to Flamenco Beach and Carlos Rosario Beach. Relax by the water at Zoni Beach and Tamarindo Beach. It doesn't end there: head off the coast to Culebrita Island and enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse.

Fly from San Juan to Culebra in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and ferry. In December in Culebra, expect temperatures between 85°F during the day and 75°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sat) so you can travel back home.
