Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Mon): get to know the fascinating history of Paseo de la Princesa. Here are some ideas for day two: wander the streets of Old San Juan and then contemplate the long history of Sitio Histórico de San Juan.

You can drive from San Juan to Ponce in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a shuttle. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from San Juan in December; daily highs in Ponce reach 80°F and lows reach 70°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Wed) early enough to travel to Isla de Vieques.

Isla de Vieques

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Step out of the city life by going to Caracas Beach and Playa La Chiva. We've included these beaches for you: Playa Pata Prieta and Navio Beach.
