The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Step out of the city life by going to Mingo Falls and Deep Creek. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cherokee: Maggie Valley (Waterrock Knob & Wheels Through Time Transportation Museum). There's still lots to do: try your luck at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee, see the interesting displays at Museum of the Cherokee Indian, sample the tasty concoctions at Mountain Layers Brewing Company, and take in the exciting artwork at Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual.
