Kick off your visit on the 1st (Mon): get great views at Pinnacles Overlook, then explore the striking landscape at Yellow Mounds Overlook, then cruise along Loop Road, and finally identify plant and animal life at Roberts Prairie Dog Town. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 2nd (Tue): explore the striking landscape at Big Badlands Overlook, then trek along Door Trail, then trek along Notch Trail, and finally explore the wealth of natural beauty at Bigfoot Pass Overlook.

Custer

Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Wed): get a new perspective on nature at Native American Educational and Cultural Center, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, then contemplate the waterfront views at Legion Lake, and finally admire the majestic nature at Custer State Park. On your second day here, trot along with a tour on horseback, then learn more about the world around you at The Museum @ Black Hills Institute, then stop by Things That Rock, and finally do a tasting at Prairie Berry Winery.

You can drive from Badlands National Park to Custer in 2 hours. Another option is to do a combination of bus and taxi. In July, Custer is a bit cooler than Badlands National Park - with highs of 80°F and lows of 53°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Thu) so you can go by car to Lead.

On the 5th (Fri), admire all the interesting features of Broken Boot Gold Mine, take an in-depth tour of Days of '76 Museum, then see the interesting displays at Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, and finally take an in-depth tour of D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery.
