Carbondale

Carbondale ©
Carbondale is a city in Jackson County, Illinois, United States, within the Southern Illinois region informally known as "Little Egypt." The city developed from 1853 because of the stimulation of railroad construction into the area. Step off the beaten path and head to Boo Rochman Memorial Park and Ferne Clyffe State Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Carbondale: Harrisburg (Harrisburg Township Park District & Garden of the Gods) and Lincoln Heritage Winery (in Cobden). The adventure continues: identify plant and animal life at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, look for gifts at Makanda Trading Company, get lost in a book at Marion Carnegie Library, and do a tasting at Blue Sky Vineyard.
