Springfield is the third-largest city in the state of Missouri and the county seat of Greene County. Your inner history buff will appreciate Mansfield Cemetery and Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum. Step off the beaten path and head to US Army Engineer Museum and Bakersville Pioneer Village. Explore Springfield's surroundings by going to Fort Leonard Wood (US Army Military Police Corps Museum & Fort Leonard Wood Museum), National Tiger Sanctuary (in Saddlebrooke) and Redmons Candy Factory (in Phillipsburg). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Gay Perdita Sinclair Station Route 66 Memorabalia, see what you can catch with a fishing tour, tee off at Old Kinderhook Golf Course, and get engrossed in the history at Carthage Civil War Museum.

For other places to visit, ratings, where to stay, and more tourist information, read Springfield day trip website .

In May, daily temperatures in Springfield can reach 75°F, while at night they dip to 55°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
