Heart of the Florida Keys

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sombrero Beach and Seven Mile Bridge. Step out of the city life by going to Dolphin Research Center and National Key Deer Refuge. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Bahia Honda State Park, identify plant and animal life at The Turtle Hospital, and discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Washington to Marathon is an approximately 11-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. Prepare for much hotter weather when traveling from Washington in March: high temperatures in Marathon hover around 81°F and lows are around 69°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Tue) so you can drive to Key Largo.

Diving Capital of the World

The northernmost island of the Florida Keys, Key Largo provides stunning scenery, a number of watersports opportunities, and plenty of areas to relax on vacation.
On the 17th (Wed), look for all kinds of wild species at Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, surround yourself with nature on Capt. Sterling's Everglades Eco-Tours, and then take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: identify plant and animal life at Grecian Rocks and then immerse yourself in nature at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

Getting from Marathon to Key Largo by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. Traveling from Marathon in March, plan for slightly colder nights in Key Largo, with lows around 63°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Thu) early enough to drive to Key West.

Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports and then take a memorable drive along The Overseas Highway. On the next day, kick back and relax at Fort Zachary Taylor, explore the galleries of Truman Little White House, and then look for all kinds of wild species at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory.

Traveling by car from Key Largo to Key West takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Traveling from Key Largo in March, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Key West, with lows around 69°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
