Colonial Capital

Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Colonial Williamsburg and Historic Jamestowne will appeal to museum buffs. Get some historical perspective at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Jamestown Settlement. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Williamsburg: Newport News (The Mariners' Museum & Park & The Noland Trail), Buckroe Beach and Park (in Hampton) and St. Luke's Historic Church & Museum (in Smithfield). Plan for a day of cool, family-friendly fun on the 25th (Sat) at Water Country USA. There's still lots to do: stop by Yankee Candle Company, contemplate the long history of Governor's Palace, explore the world behind art at Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, and explore the striking landscape of Colonial National Historical Park.

In July, daytime highs in Williamsburg are 91°F, while nighttime lows are 73°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
