Colonial Capital

Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Public Hospital Museum has been added to your itinerary. Colonial Williamsburg and U.S. Army Transportation Museum will appeal to museum buffs. For shopping fun, head to Williamsburg Art Gallery or Whitley's Peanut Factory. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Williamsburg: Point of Rocks (in Chester), Surry (Chippokes Plantation State Park & Smith's Fort Plantation) and Fort Lee (U.S. Army Women's Museum & US Army Quartermaster Museum). The adventure continues: brush up on your military savvy at Deltaville Maritime Museum, see the interesting displays at Virginia Musical Museum, get engrossed in the history at Isle of Wight County Museum, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Hughlett Point Natural Area.
