Carmel-by-the-Sea, often simply called Carmel, is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Visit Carmel River State Beach and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park for some beach relaxation. Take a break from the city and head to Monterey Bay and Point Lobos. Step out of Carmel with an excursion to McWay Falls in Big Sur--about 1 hour away. Spend the 11th (Wed) observing fascinating marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour. There's more to do: stroll through Pacific Grove Shoreline Parkway Marine Refuge.

Drive from Yosemite National Park to Carmel in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and flight; or do a combination of car, flight, and shuttle. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Yosemite National Park in September since evenings lows in Carmel dip to 56°F.
