Known as the "Land of Giants" in honor of its celebrated residents--including poet Julia de Burgos and baseball player Roberto Clemente--Carolina makes a living as both an industrial center and a hub of tourism.

Take a break from the city and head to Playa La Pocita De Pinones and Carolina Beach. Head to Plaza las Americas and El Alcazarfor plenty of shopping. Get out of town with these interesting Carolina side-trips: Caribbean Trading Company Store (in Palmer), El Yunque Rain Forest (in El Yunque National Forest) and San Juan (Canyoning & Rappelling Tours, Walter Otero Contemporary Art, & more). There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Luquillo Beach, try to win big at El San Juan Casino, appreciate the extensive heritage of Old San Juan, and browse the different shops at The Outlet At Route 66.
