Aptly nicknamed the "Mile-High City," Denver sits at an altitude of 1,600 m (5,280 ft) above sea level, located right where the Great Plains give way to the Rocky Mountains.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Fri): take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. John's Cathedral, then explore the historical opulence of Cherokee Ranch and Castle, and then explore the striking landscape at Roxborough State Park. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at Molly Brown House Museum, then contemplate the long history of Center for Colorado Women's History at the Byers-Evans House, then take a stroll through LoDo, and finally steep yourself in history at Denver Union Station.

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Wed): take a memorable tour with Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum, then trek along Rim Trail/ Campus Loop, and then hike along Animas Mountain Trail. On your second day here, hike along Animas River Trail and then take a peaceful walk through San Juan National Forest.
