Founded in 1859 as part of the Gold Rush in the Rockies, Breckenridge boasts a main street lined with colorful wooden storefronts housing cafes and shops, giving the effect of a thriving western town from the 19th century.
Explore hidden gems such as Boreas Pass Road and Frisco Historic Park and Museum. Take a break from the city and head to Guanella Pass and McCullough Gulch. Step out of Breckenridge with an excursion to Capital Prize Gold Mine Tour in Georgetown--about 52 minutes away. The adventure continues: relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, sample the fine beverages at Breckenridge Distillery, steep yourself in history at High Line Railroad Park, and stroll through Peaks Trail.

Austin to Breckenridge is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone changes from Central Standard Time (CST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. Expect much colder temperatures when traveling from Austin in October; daily highs in Breckenridge reach 47°F and lows reach 32°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Aspen.

Known as a ski resort town, Aspen's history goes back to its roots as a silver-mining village tucked away in an isolated valley of the Rocky Mountains.
Escape the urban bustle at Maroon Lake Scenic Trail and Grottos Trail. Explore hidden gems such as Rio Grande Trail and Castle Creek Road. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Aspen: Glenwood Springs (Roaring Fork Valley & Spas) and West Elk Loop Scenic Byway (in Carbondale). You can drive from Breckenridge to Aspen in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. While traveling from Breckenridge, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Aspen, ranging from highs of 60°F to lows of 30°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
