Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Prairie Berry Winery and Historic Old Town. Visiting Black Hills National Forest and Mount Rushmore National Memorial will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Custer side-trips: Wind Cave National Park (in Wind Cave National Park), Mammoth Site of Hot Springs (in Hot Springs) and Windcross Conservancy (in Buffalo Gap). Pack the 8th (Sat) with family-friendly diversions at Rushmore Tramway Adventures. And it doesn't end there: explore the striking landscape at Needles Eye Tunnel, explore and take pictures at Wildlife Loop Road, contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake, and cruise along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway.

In June in Custer, expect temperatures between 73°F during the day and 48°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
