Durango — 8 nights

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Take a break from the city and head to Off-Road Tours and Zipline. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Long House and Step House. Explore Durango's surroundings by going to Mesa Verde National Park (Ruins Road & Far View Sites), Dolores (Canyons Of The Ancients Visitor Center & Museum & The Anasazi Heritage Center) and Majestic Dude Ranch (in Mancos). The adventure continues: examine the collection at Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum, tour the pleasant surroundings at Animas Mountain Trail, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, and get curious at Powerhouse Science Center.

For ratings, where to stay, other places to visit, and more tourist information, you can read our Durango online sightseeing planner.
