Durango

Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Get some cultural insight at Long House and Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum. Appreciate the collections at Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum and Cortez Cultural Center. Venture out of the city with trips to Notah Dineh Trading Company and Museum (in Cortez), Ouray (Cascade Falls Park & Off-Road Tours) and Bear Creek Falls (in Telluride). There's much more to do: trek along Animas Mountain Trail, tour the pleasant surroundings at Rim Trail/ Campus Loop, examine the collection at Rio Grande Southern Railroad Museum., and don't miss a visit to Park Point.
