Gardiner — 3 nights

Gardiner serves as the gateway to Yellowstone National Park's northern entrance, marked by an iconic stone arch.
Venture out of the city with trips to Pine Creek Trail (in Livingston) and West Yellowstone (Send it Home, Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, &more). Next up on the itinerary: take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, contemplate the waterfront views at Yellowstone River, and take a memorable drive along Beartooth Hwy.

Big Sky is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gallatin and Madison counties in southwestern Montana. On the 29th (Sat), hike along Beehive Basin Trail, take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, then stroll the grounds of The Soldiers Chapel, and finally get outside with Outdoor Activities. On the 30th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: hike along Ousel Falls Trail.

Drive from Gardiner to Big Sky in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Expect a daytime high around 77°F in July, and nighttime lows around 39°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 30th (Sun) to allow time for the flight back home.
