Duke City

Albuquerque remains one of the state's secret jewels, as its tourist attractions are often overshadowed by the more popular holiday destination of Santa Fe.
Get some cultural insight at Tinkertown Museum and National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument and Unser Racing Museum. When in Albuquerque, make a side trip to see Bandelier National Monument in Los Alamos, approximately Los Alamos away. The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Turquoise Museum, do a tasting at Casa Rondena Winery, admire the striking features of Spaceship House, and appreciate the history behind Coronado Historic Site.

For photos, maps, where to stay, and other tourist information, you can read our Albuquerque trip planner.

Columbus to Albuquerque is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 2 hours traveling from Columbus to Albuquerque. Expect a daytime high around 83°F in September, and nighttime lows around 60°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Taos.

Taos

Taos ©
Many residents have shunned fast-paced city living for Taos's laid-back vibe and blend of Spanish, Native American, and Anglo cultures.
On the 25th (Wed), make a trip to Taos County Courthouse Murals, delve into the distant past at Taos Pueblo, see the interesting displays at Millicent Rogers Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church, then view the masterpieces at Tesuque Glassworks, and finally explore the world behind art at Blumenschein Home & Museum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: see the interesting displays at Mabel Dodge Luhan Historic House, then view the masterpieces at Enchanted Circle Pottery, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at San Jose de Gracia Church, and finally do a tasting at La Chiripada Winery.

To see ratings, maps, photos, and other tourist information, go to the Taos trip itinerary tool.

Traveling by car from Albuquerque to Taos takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a shuttle. In September, Taos is a bit cooler than Albuquerque - with highs of 76°F and lows of 44°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 26th (Thu) so you can go by car to Santa Fe.
