A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Visit Pittock Mansion and Columbia River Highway for their historical value. Get some cultural insight at Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and Sokol Blosser Winery. Take a break from Portland with a short trip to Multnomah Falls in Bridal Veil, about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: admire the natural beauty at Portland Japanese Garden, stop by Powell's City of Books, and get engrossed in the history at Lake Oswego Preservation Society.

Take a break from the city and head to Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach. Museum-lovers will get to explore Columbia River Maritime Museum and Flavel House Museum. Go for a jaunt from Astoria to Cannon Beach to see Ecola State Park about 50 minutes away. Spend the 29th (Tue) exploring nature at Fort Clatsop National Memorial.
