Portland

— 5 nights

The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Change things up with these side-trips from Portland: Marginal Way Walkway (in Ogunquit), Boston (St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, &more) and Kancamagus Highway (in North Conway). There's still lots to do: sample the tasty concoctions at Allagash Brewing Company, admire the masterpieces at Portland Museum of Art, stop by Lisa-Marie's Made in Maine, and take in the awesome beauty at Mt Chocorua.

For where to stay, traveler tips, and other tourist information, refer to the Portland journey planner.
