City of Roses

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Cannon Beach and The Grotto - National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother. Take a break from the city and head to Hug Point State Park and Volcano Lands - Private Tours. Dedicate the 26th (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, admire the natural beauty at Lan Su Chinese Garden, get engrossed in the history at Oregon Historical Society, and hike along Forest Park.

Los Angeles to Portland is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Los Angeles in September, things will get little chillier in Portland: highs are around 28°C and lows about 15°C. Emerald City

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Bruce Lee Grave Site and Kubota Garden. Get outdoors at Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery and 5 Mile Drive & Trails. There's lots more to do: admire the natural beauty at Seattle Japanese Garden, admire the landmark architecture of Seattle Public Library, look for gifts at Seattle Chocolate Factory Store, and wander the streets of Queen Anne Hill.

You can fly from Portland to Seattle in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In September, daytime highs in Seattle are 26°C, while nighttime lows are 15°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sat) early enough to catch the flight back home.
