Isla Nena

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Step out of the city life by going to Sun Bay Beach and La Chiva. Relax by the water at Caracas Beach and Media Luna Beach. The adventure continues: take a memorable tour with Tours, get great views at Puerto Ferro Lighthouse, delve into the distant past at El Hombre de Puerto Ferro, and take in the waterfront at Malecon.

For where to stay, other places to visit, traveler tips, and more tourist information, you can read our Isla de Vieques day trip tool.

Start your trip to Culebra by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

When in San Juan, make a side trip to see El Portal Tropical Forest Center in El Yunque National Forest, approximately El Yunque National Forest away. It doesn't end there: scramble along the landscape with a canyoning and rapelling tour and brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Casa Bacardi Puerto Rico.
