Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Do your shopping at Chihuly Garden and Glass and Pioneer Square. Kids will appreciate attractions like Pike Place Market and The Museum of Flight. The adventure continues: don't miss a visit to Space Needle, stroll through Alki Beach, identify plant and animal life at Mercer Slough Nature Park, and take in the waterfront at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks.

San Diego to Seattle is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Plan for a bit cooler temperatures traveling from San Diego in April, with highs in Seattle at 61°F and lows at 46°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 21st (Sun) early enough to go by car to Vancouver.

Vancouver is a city on the north bank of the Columbia River in the U.S. Relax by the water at Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach. Get some historical perspective at Timberline Lodge and Ski Area and Lewis & Clark Salt Works. Get out of town with these interesting Vancouver side-trips: Astoria Column (in Astoria) and Multnomah Falls (in Bridal Veil). The adventure continues: contemplate the waterfront views at Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Mt. Hood National Forest, and steep yourself in history at Fort Vancouver | National Historic Site.

Traveling by car from Seattle to Vancouver takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or fly. In April, plan for daily highs up to 62°F, and evening lows to 43°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Thu) so you can drive to Portland.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
On the 26th (Fri), contemplate the long history of Columbia River Highway, get great views at Benson Bridge, walk around Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, then admire the striking features of Pittock Mansion, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Eastbank Esplanade. On the 27th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: delve into the lush surroundings at The Grotto - National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, then get to know the resident critters at Oregon Zoo, then wander the streets of Northwest (Nob Hill), and finally stop by Powell's City of Books.
