The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Fri): pause for some photo ops at National Civil Rights Museum - Lorraine Motel and then contemplate the long history of Sun Studio. Here are some ideas for day two: stroll the grounds of Memphis National Cemetery, then don't miss a visit to Graceland, then make a trip to The Peabody Ducks, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Beale Street.

Newark to Memphis is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. Known as the capital of country music, the thriving city of Nashville combines old-world southern charm with a progressive urban flair.
Get some historical perspective at Lotz House Museum and Belle Meade Plantation. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Downtown Nashville. Venture out of the city with trips to Franklin (Carter House & Carnton). There's still lots to do: see a show at Grand Ole Opry, examine the collection at The Johnny Cash Museum & Cafe, and contemplate the long history of Andrew Jackson's Hermitage.

Just a short drive from the national park protecting the diverse plant and animal life of the Great Smoky Mountains, the town features numerous places to visit, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, theaters, and shops.
Tennessee Homemade Wines and Mill Bridge Winery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with a short trip to River Rafting & Tubing in Hartford (about 54 minutes away). And it doesn't end there: brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Sugarlands Distilling Company, identify plant and animal life at Sugarlands Valley Nature Trail, learn about winemaking at Gatlinburg Wine Cellar, and admire the landmark architecture of Noah Bud Ogle Cabin.
