Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. Kick off your visit on the 17th (Mon): identify plant and animal life at Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, then take in the dramatic natural features at High Falls Gorge, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Jo. On the next day, tour the pleasant surroundings at Brewster Peninsula Nature Trails, then steep yourself in history at John Brown Farm State Historic Site, and then see the interesting displays at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

The first national park east of the Mississippi River, Acadia National Park draws visitors with its rugged landscape of ocean shoreline, low-slung granite mountains, dense woodlands, and pristine lakes.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Beech Mountain Trail and The Bowl Trail. Visiting Heart of Acadia Loop and Pemetic Mountain will get you outdoors. And it doesn't end there: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Cadillac Mountain, see the interesting displays at The Seal Cove Auto Museum, explore the landscape on two wheels at Carriage Roads, and head outdoors with Dorr Mountain.

Traveling by flight from Lake Placid to Acadia National Park takes 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and car. Traveling from Lake Placid in June, Acadia National Park is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 52°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Fri) to allow time to drive to Portland.

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Sat): look for all kinds of wild species at Wells Reserve at Laudholm, look for all kinds of wild species at Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Ann's Episcopal Church. On the next day, cast your line with a fishing tour, tour the pleasant surroundings at Eastern Promenade, and then learn about winemaking at Maine Mead Works.

Drive from Acadia National Park to Portland in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus; or take a bus. In June, daily temperatures in Portland can reach 73°F, while at night they dip to 54°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
