Just a few metro stops away from the bustle of Washington D.C., Alexandria provides a respite from the fast-paced capital.
Discover out-of-the-way places like National Museum of the Marine Corps and Calvert Marine Museum and Drum Point Lighthouse. Head to Torpedo Factory Art Center and Peeps and Companyfor some retail therapy. Step out of Alexandria with an excursion to Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg--about 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: steep yourself in history at Old Town, explore the different monuments and memorials at Arlington National Cemetery, get to know the fascinating history of The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
