Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
Visit Colonial Williamsburg and Shirley Plantation for their historical value. Discover out-of-the-way places like American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and White House of the Confederacy. Step out of Williamsburg with an excursion to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond--about 1h 10 min away. The adventure continues: explore the world behind art at Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, steep yourself in history at Historic Jamestowne, pause for some serene contemplation at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church, and look for gifts at Whitley's Peanut Factory.
