Washington DC

— 8 nights
The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Arlington National Cemetery and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Head to Loring Cornish Gallery and Gallery On Madisonfor plenty of shopping. Venture out of the city with trips to Little Round Top (in Gettysburg), The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center (in Frederick) and George Washington's Mount Vernon (in Mount Vernon). Spend the 29th (Sun) exploring nature at Mary McLeod Bethune Council House. There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at National Air and Space Museum, get engrossed in the history at United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, contemplate the waterfront views at Tidal Basin, and walk around National Mall.
