Blackbeard’s Castle, Charlotte Amalie

#1 of 15 in Historic Sites in St. Thomas
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Learn about the Caribbean's pirate-filled past at Blackbeard’s Castle, a lookout tower located on a historical site. Built in 1679, the tower reaches a height of 12 m (40 ft) and has walls 1.8m (6 ft) thick, allowing excellent visibility of, and protection of, incoming enemies. Nowadays, the top of the tower offers extensive views of the town and its harbor, while downstairs you'll find three sparkling swimming pools. Plunge into the water to relax after a long day spent plundering the high seas. Blackbeard's here too, in the form of a 4.2 m (14 ft) bronze statue. • stayed here for 2 days and loved it. Close to a lot and great views. The drinks and food down at the bar were great.  more »
  • This is a nice place to visit and it's a recommended stop on your trip to St Thomas; however, it's not quite as outstanding as I thought it would be.
  • Still closed but garden area beautiful. 99 steps up needs new railings
