Stop at Drake's Seat, where the famed Sir Francis Drake once sat to spot unsuspecting Spanish ships. Today you can appreciate the views of the island and its beaches. During the 16th century, Drake used this location to watch for Spanish ships leaving with their cargo before attacking them in his crown-sponsored piracy. Now the lookout serves as a quick stop to view the land and beaches below. Make Drake's Seat a part of your Magens Bay vacation plans using our Magens Bay day trip planner.

  • Excellent place to stop and take a picture overlooking Magens Bay. Parking is very limited there but everyone quickly moves on because there's not anything else up there other than to take a picture....  more

  • Beautiful views of Magens Bay, worth the drive up. Views on the road west are also very pretty but places to stop are limited.

  • Beautiful Location! We rented scooters and drive around the island! I would caution anyone doing this as they do drive on the left hand side and the island has lots of hills. Amazing views from Drakes seat!
  • Oh the feeling and presence on this spot is something, that I cannot really put words to as a African person. This ‘outlook view’, which it definitely was during the dark times of humanity. The site is named for Sir Francis Drake, who is said to have kept watch over the harbor from this vantage point. You can view the Magens Bay, the US and British Islands. I’ll encourage you to put this location on your schedule or bucket list, when you visit St Thomas US Virgin Island. Despite the history of the outlook point, there is something special about it and has a beautiful view for pictures.
