Create an itinerary including Waterlemon Cay
Take a short hike along a rugged trail to Waterlemon Cay, a remote snorkeling location. Swim out over the initially rocky shore to lush coral gardens teeming with tropical fish, rays, and turtles. You won't find room to sunbathe on the rocky beach, unless you’re okay with perching on a small boulder. Regardless, you can appreciate the natural world around you as you relax in the untouched environment. Bring plenty of food, water, and sunscreen along with you. • Title says it all - you'll need to walk a mile from the parking lot to the beach across from the cay, but you'll find some of the best snorkeling here.

  • First let’s be honest, it’s a hike, a hot hike. I had to carry all of our gear, took 30 minutes. On the way in prior to the cay there were sea turtles in the grass. I left my wife on the stones, no sand beach near the cay. The swim out to the cay was nice, saw a nurse shark under some coral. We swam counterclockwise around the cay as everyone says to. There were large coral and all the fish on the backside. Not saying it’s not worth it yet there’s better beaches on the island.
  • One of our favorite snorkeling spots on St John. Nice hike in. The coral took a little abuse but seems to be coming back nice. Saw some sea turtles and a large barracuda as well. Will definitely return.
