  • We went on a great backpacking adventure in North Western Alabama in early April. We started at the Borden Creek Trail Head and walked down trail 200 to 209 to 204 and then 224 to complete the loop...

  • We started our hike at the Randolph Trail head. We took 201 to 209 and gheaded down to the River. Crossed the river at a point about two feet deep. Should have carried my shoes and socks instead...

  • Lots of variation in the trails. Some parts are rocky then later on become smooth easy hiking. I really enjoyed the scenery in March. I am sure it would be even more amazing in late spring. There are some issues though. I cannot stress enough that the signage is absolutely terrible. I was lost for about 2 hours on my first day when the trail just disappeared. I backtracked, but never saw a sign. When there are signs they are often cryptic at best. For instance, one trail number sign but three trails connecting. If I were a local I would quietly replace all their signs with better signs. Be sure to download a GPS map to your phone as there is GPS, but no cellular service. Also have a compass and paper map handy. There is a pretty good map on the USDA forest service site.
