The Alexandria Zoological Park is a 33-acre (13 ha) zoo located in Alexandria, Louisiana, United States. First opened to the public in 1926, it is owned by the City of Alexandria and operated by the Division of Public Works. It is home to about 500 animals.
The zoo was started in 1926 in Bringhurst Park as a row of cages. When the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) threatened to close the zoo in the 1960s, the city created the committee that is now Friends of the Alexandria Zoo (FOTAZ), the support organization for the zoo.

The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and takes part in about 20 Species Survival Plans (SSP).

  • It is a pretty nice zoo and the prices are reasonable . We spent about two hours there and went slow, it's just right for a morning or afternoon adventure. It was not busy at all, which was nice. The only thing I could even complain about would be that the train wasn't running, but it is understandable due to the heat index being overr 100. Other than that the only suggestion I could make is that they should stay open later in the evening so that it is cool enough that the animals will come out. Most of the bigger animals weren't out due to the heat.
  • They give you fish food at the gate when you pay and a ticket to feed birds. You have to purchase them for $2.00 a piece but it's so worth it. My husband loved feed a bird very clean and pretty. Very clean bathrooms with changing table also very clean. Cup of fish food we received, my 7month old love the whole thing especially the otters.
