Wonderland Amusement Park is an iconic regional landmark that features 29 fun-filled rides and attracts more than 200,000 visitors every year.
Located in Thompson Park, Wonderland opened its doors in 1951 as Kiddie Land. At that time, the Park only had three rides; the boat ride, the Lil’ Dipper roller coaster and a kiddie car ride. Despite its small size, Kiddie Land was a huge hit!
Every year since, new and exciting rides have been added to the Park, making Wonderland the third largest amusement park in Texas with 29 fun-filled rides, including the world famous Texas Tornado.
This double loop, steel coaster attracts roller coaster enthusiasts from around the world!
Wonderland also boasts the 12 passenger Shoot the Chute, which is the first of its kind in the United States, the Drop of Fear, the Himalaya and the Texas Intimidator. Of course, Kiddie Land has remained a favorite among the little ones with the Frog Hopper, Merry-Go-Round and Train.
Every year, more than 200,000 people visit Wonderland Park either for a family outing or company event. Wonderland also plays host to birthday parties and anniversary celebrations. It’s the perfect place to bring family, friends and employees for some fun and excitement!
Wonderland Park was the vision of Paul and Aletha Rhodes. This dynamic couple turned an empty piece of land in North Amarillo into a premiere family destination. Today, their daughter, Paula, and her husband, Paul Borchardt run the park. The Borchardt’s daughter, Rebecca Parker, is the Park’s controller and the heir apparent. Although the younger generations have taken over the helm, Aletha Rhodes, who is now 96 years old, still works at the Park most days and was recently spotted making hot dogs for visiting kids.

Had some business in Amarillo, and had a free day, so off to Wonderland. The oldest park in Texas may be the best to some visitors. The park is packed with kiddie rides, and even more family rides...

Great park I loved it! The rides are a nice variety, some rare coaster credits, only problem for me was slow operations. But other than that kind and funny staff at every corner!

I thought this would be a fun stop on our roadtrip and mom is pretty much always right 😁. Kiddos had a blast! Hubby and I enjoyed ourselves as well and rode majority of the rides. We went yesterday (Wed 7-10pm) bought the Wow pass and added a $20 Wow card so that we could ride Fantastic Journey and hubby really wanted to ride Texas Tornado. Now there were numerous negatives... the exit ramp on Skyrider had a broken wood plank (my kiddos foot could go through it), on Fantastic Journey...my hubby and daughter got stuck on the ride for at least 5 mins in the dark room and why doesn't the ride attendant check to see people coming off? It wasn't until another family went on and their car knocked into my hubby's and got them moving again. Hubby never got to ride the Texas Tornado, every time he went over there, they wouldn't run it until they had 10 people. When we went to ride the green coaster that is by the Himalaya ride, the guys running it were unprofessional. One guy had no uniform, hoodie over his head with socks and crocs. The other guy was eating Dippin Dots the entire time. We had money left on Wow card and they said over speaker we could use it still while they were closing. So my hubby went to a concession stand to get a drink and see what else they might have...but nope, lady just completely ignored him and just kept walking by him inside concession. So we went to next one. Bathrooms were a bit gross, hubby said the men's was just above being a port a potty. Besides all that, we still had a great time for a family of 5 for under $130
