South Toledo Bend State Park is one of two Louisiana State Parks located on the shores of Toledo Bend Reservoir. The land for the park was acquired in 1979, but it was not opened to the public with facilities until November 20, 2004. The park, located at 120 Bald Eagle Road, in Anacoco, LA, quickly became popular due to its recreation potential.

  • As far as state parks go, this is one of my favorites! The campsites are beautiful and most have great water views. We paid for a regular spot which had a picnic table, fire pit, leveled area for tent camping, as well as plenty of room for our travel trailer set up. The beaches are really nice for swimming and provide easy/safe water access for the kids. The hiking trails were beautiful and gave many opportunities to view wildlife. The playground near the campsites was sturdy, but I could tell it had lost a few (insignificant) pieces over its years. The kids still enjoyed having an extra place to play. The shower house included a laundry room, which is a feature I have not seen at many state parks. The bathrooms and showers were clean, and the bathroom was temperature controlled-a feature I really had appreciation for since I have showered in the hot/muggy and freezing cold shower houses. The staff and camp hosts were very nice and accommodating. We stayed in the month of October. Though we weren't expecting anything extra, the kids received Halloween goodie bags and hayrides were given to camp guests Saturday evening.
  • We loved it here! Did some tent camping in April, and even though it stormed the first night, we did not have to deal with excessive mud/dirt. The campsites dried up quickly, and the water was clear and beautiful the next day! Great area for fishing, hiking, and just enjoying nature. We will definitely be returning!
