The Anna Maria Historic Green Village, Pine Avenue – the modest ‘Main Street; of our City, is an unusual combination of historic preservation and modern technology. It’s rich history is represented by the four 100 year-old buildings that have houses some of the most important people in our island’s history.
1. The Rosedale Cottage
2. Thelma by the Sea
3. The Sears Cottage
4. The Pilsbury Home
The ‘greeness’ of the HGV is unparalleled anywhere else in the USA and it is this aspect that makes it truly unique. By bringing together history and technology, we have tried to mingle the charm and roots of our buildings with the great American sense of optimism and energy that we, as British residents so admire. It is this spirit and energy that drives people forward, creating and recreating the future every time they encounter a challenge. So we are pleased that each of the businesses in the Historic Green Village is run by entrepreneurs who have all overcome personal challenges themselves and responded with the distinctive businesses that they run today. They embody the constant innovation, environmentalism and respect for our past that is the HGV!
The HGV is one of ONLY 100 PLACES WORLDWIDE to have achieved the highest possible green building standard – Platinum LEED – PLUS at the same time Net Zero Energy, for the first 18 months of operation – an amazing achievement. This happened because we planned how to make the buildings and infrastructure work well together to maximize the resources that Florida has on offer – a beautiful natural environment, sunshine, rainwater above us and groundwater 450′ below us.
There are a dozen spots on the campus, from the Warehouse in the South to the new Art Gallery and Bakery buildings on the North side, which illustrate the green approach. These are highlighted with a walking tour and signposts at each spot and noticeboards in each of the buildings.
Today the Historic Green Village houses a Cafe, an Art Gallery a Green Boutique with reclaimed designer fashions and upcycled artisan creations, a Village Bakery and an Outfitters store selling high quality fishing and kayaking equipment, plus performance clothing.
