Goldfield Ghost Town, Apache Junction

Ghost Town · Historic Site
Get in touch with the spirit of the Old West at Goldfield Ghost Town, a historical former mining village brought back to life. When gold ore was discovered in the surrounding area in the 1890s, the boomtown quickly grew thanks to the influx of treasure-seekers and fortune-hunters heading out west. Though the town itself only really lasted about 5 years, you'll find that its saloons, shops, and other wooden buildings have been restored accurately. You can wander the streets and witness re-enactors dressed in period clothing taking part in daily activities and experience the occasional shootout (for show, of course), all while enjoying the mountainous Arizona landscape around you. Pay a visit to the saloon and restaurant to get a feel for the environment in which the town's residents would relax and interact. Be sure to check the website for information on special events and shows. • The summer isn’t the best time to go to the Ghost Town because some of the activities do not take place, such as the street gun fights. It was a great place to go just to wander around during these...  more »
  • We enjoyed our time here along with a nice lunch inside Mammoth Steak House and Saloon. The surrounding area is picturesque.  more »

  • The Goldfield Ghost Town looks like something straight out of the wild west. Just looking at this place you can almost hear the clanking of spurs and the spinning chamber of six shooters. The buildings are weathered, rustic, and dusty. The land surrounding the town is dry and barren. And in the distance are the Superstitious Mountains. All together this place is absolutely fun and amazing. Just an hour East of Phoenix, this place is free to visit and wander around. Of the many paid things to do here, like eating and purchasing souvenirs, you can also take a train ride which takes you around the town. The train engineer is also your tour guide providing fascinating facts about the history of the town and the surrounding goldmines. The other thing you can do here is the mine tour where the funny and quick witted guide describes in detail the life of a miner. And if you are looking for more adventures, there are also jeep tours and zip lining attractions among others things. The costs of doing all the extracurriculars are not that bad and in most cases worth it. Check this place out and live out your gold mining, wild west dreams.
  • Completely taken back by Goldfield. Lived in AZ almost all my life n what a pleasant surprise. Wasn't crowded, but was lovely. Great energy n plenty to see n do. Kept it simple w Margarita, beer n burger... All three were amazing. Can't say enough, I definite place to kill a few hours n WOW countless opportunities to get awesome photos if you wanna post... Go Goldfield!
