  • I gave this five stars because every state park is important. The building is half dedicated to John Gorrie and half to the history of the Florida Park Service. Both are interesting. I was hoping for more technical information on John Gorrie's ice machine and air conditioner. There is an interesting display of his patents and a scaled replica of his ice machine. Perhaps, as interest in this remarkable man grows, the exhibit will expand. If you are in the area, be sure to visit!
  • Yes, there is only a small section about John Gorrie, but the Florida Park service is full of its own history. The little building is just perfect size to house both exhibits, and I am glad that they included a section dedicated to the history of the state parks in Florida. You can find old uniforms, old brochures, and old photographs of the state parks through the years. Check out the neighboring grassy lots with parks and statues. You can even purchase a book about John Gorrie for $22.
