Covering 196 hectares (485 acres) of land, Minnesota Zoo serves as home for animals like bison, tigers, camels, bears, wolves, caribou, tree kangaroos, stingrays, and monkeys. Opened in 1978, the zoo was one of the first to organize the animals by their habitat rather than by species. The animals are housed in six different environments: Minnesota native animals, animals of the north, tropical animals, marine wildlife, animals from Russia's far-east, and farm animals. Several of the zones are accessible by short trails that connect the many exhibits. You'll learn more about the native Minnesota environment in that section of the zoo, where you can wander past a beaver pond and a northern forest glade. Put Minnesota Zoo and other Apple Valley attractions into our Apple Valley travel route planning site, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Enjoyable visit, as always. The exhibits are well maintained. As expected, some animals are out while others are sleeping hidden away, not much that can be done about it. The petting zoo is a hit...

  • Very nice zoo. The animals appear well cared for. Lots of places for children to play. Decent options for lunch or a snack. Some nice touches, like the Llama trail, where you can walk around with the animals. My favorite was probably the Tropics trail with a number of beautiful birds. Can't wait to go back later in July when the tiger cubs are old enough for their debut!
  • went with my husband during after hours event and i loved it. the staff working there are so full of information on these majestic animals. especially the old man in the wheelchair β˜ΊπŸ’– i wish i asked for his name but he's the sweetest. the animals aren't as interactive which is hard to not think about the animal cruelty that may be happening behind the scenes. i pray there isn't any cruelty but that's why i removed 1 star.
