Apache Trail Scenic Drive, Tortilla Flat

#5 of 28 in Scenic Drive in Arizona
Must see · Scenic Drive · Hiking Trail
Once a trail for the Apache tribe through the Superstition Mountains, Apache Trail Scenic Drive showcases the desert Southwest along a now-paved highway known officially as State Route 88. However, portions of the trail remain unpaved, and these rugged sections travel through rough mountains and Saguaro cactuses. Two reservoir lakes, Apache Lake and Canyon Lake, lie just off the road. Be careful when driving the unpaved sections, because the rocks can damage the underside of cars. Some rental companies don't allow clients to take rented SUVs, RVs, or campers onto the unpaved portion.
