This beautiful garden style cemetery encompasses 87 acres near downtown Asheville, NC overlooking the French Broad River. Among the rolling hills and gardens you can find the graves of prominent writers such as Thomas Wolfe and O. Henry, Civil War heroes, and politicians that shaped North Carolina's history. Self-guided walking tours are available at the cemetery office Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

  • lt is always interesting to visit historical cemeteries. We found some famous graves and saw some very interesting gravestones. The veteran section was really fascinating. Nice side trip while in.....  more »
  • Gorgeous cemetery, completely paved in most places where cars travel. Some older pathways where carriages once roamed are now grass-covered. So pretty any time of year.  more »
  • Interesting place. Quite a few interesting people buried here. The cemetery is quite old and historic. You can the where Thomas Wolfe and OHenry are buried. Some of the tombstones in this cemetery are quite stunning. It is a walk trough history.
