The Folk Art Center exhibits traditional and contemporary arts and crafts from nearly 1,000 craftspeople from nine states in the Appalachian region. The guild, chartered in 1930, fostered commerce for craftspeople of the region during the Great Depression. You'll have the chance to see live craft demonstrations in the center lobby. Tour the galleries to see examples of clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, paper, and other natural fiber arts and crafts. For an opportunity to purchase guild member work, stop in at the center's main gift shop, Allenstand, which claims to be the United States' oldest continuously running craft shop. Using our custom trip planner, Asheville attractions like The Folk Art Center can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

My favorite part of this was seeing so many different styles of art in one place. I enjoyed being able to purchase art that supported the community as well. more »
This place was beautiful! When we went, there were a couple artists displaying their work and it was beautiful to watch them in action. There's a downstairs gallery and upstairs had even more beautiful and unique pieces on display. Every staff member I came into contact with was extremely friendly and welcoming. Also loved both shops downstairs, got some cool souvenirs! Amazing experience, will definitely want to come back!
Beautiful art! Amazing gallery and shop for one of a kind pieces. Old craftsmanship with modern twists. Educational displays to weave more history into the gallery. Will definitely go again.
