The SAC Aerospace Museum, located between Lincoln and Omaha near Interstate 80, utilizes over 300,000 square feet of exhibit, education, and event space to educate, inspire, and entertain its guests. Organized in 1959, the original mission of the museum was to commemorate the contributions of the Strategic Air Command, which until 1992 was headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base. The museum moved to its current location in 1998 upon completion of a new indoor facility. The museum houses an impressive collection of military aircraft and other artifacts, many of which have been restored in the museum’s on-site restoration facility. As part of its commitment to education, the museum has recently established a partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Office of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education to provide cutting-edge educational opportunities for student, teachers, families, and adult learners. Traveling exhibits, permanent exhibits, and a variety of special events provide additional unique experiences for the museum’s members and visitors. From the time you walk in (seeing the SR-71 mounted in the atrium entrance) to the time you leave, this museum is worth the time and money. Reduced rates for military and retirees, but well worth... more »
We enjoyed our time at the Aerospace Museum! My husband and I have been here a few times and had friends from Wisconsin visiting and knew we had to bring them here. The museum has so much to offer! It was neat that they had a model of the plane that my husband flys on, so we could give his friends a mini "tour." You can easily spend a good part of the day at this museum! Very educational!
A thoroughly impressive museum. Honestly, I expect something smaller and less impressive, but it really blew my expectations out if the water. They have great programs and tours and the planes are amazing. This is definitely a museum to come from all-over to visit. The gift shop is nice, and all of the staff was friendly and helpful.
