Maroon Bells, Aspen

4.8
Bell-shaped peaks and the distinctive maroon that colors the landscape gives the name to these famous, oft-photographed mountains. Choose from several hiking trails that provide spectacular views Maroon Bells, which measure 4,267 m (14,000 ft) high. Admire the surrounding landscapes of valleys filled with aspen and fir trees. Picturesque Maroon Lake formed from glaciers during the Ice Age sits below the peaks. For the more serious alpinists, take the trail to Crate Lake, 2.4 km (1.5 mi) beyond Maroon Lake. • The lake is beautiful! We also hiked up to crater lake and then on our way back down we walked up the scenic route above maroon bells, this little walk was better than the crater lake hike. There are ...  more »
  • It was a great hike. We arrived before 8:00 so we could drive into the National Forest. The hike was 3.6 miles and was worth the climb.  more »

  • This place is amazing. Wanted to see it for many years and still cant believe that i actually saw it. The view is incredible. Really want to go back and spent at least a week hiking those mountains. My crack
  • Nature at its best. One beautiful hill station with amazing view. Irrespective of the season it is always beautiful. And the drive to the top is amazing with alpene trees all around. Just beautiful
  • Beautiful mountains near Aspen. Took a shuttle from the highlands ski resort up to the visitor center at the bells, and hiked the short way around the first lake and then back to the smaller lake at the base of the bells. Didn't have time to go further, since we didn't want to miss the last bus pack to the parking lot. Saw lots of great vistas, interesting rocks (green!) And even a community of pika, a small rabbit like critter that live in the boulder fields collecting vegetation for winter.
  • The Maroon Bells is conveniently located near Aspen, Colorado, an iconic Colorado town. The drive is surprisingly smooth and expectedly beautiful. The admissions fee is $10.00 for a car day pass (5 day also available). Self Serve station available during week days. There are several different trails (all fairly easy) that can take you to different areas perfect for photographers. Crater Lake is an easy and rewarding trail that my family and I had done. I recommend it. Fishing at the Maroon Bells is allowed, although in some areas it is only catch and release. Artificial flies only, view Colorado Division Of Wildlife rules and regulations. Have a great time at the maroon bells!
