Must see · Mountain · Nature / Park
Bell-shaped peaks and the distinctive maroon that colors the landscape gives the name to these famous, oft-photographed mountains. Choose from several hiking trails that provide spectacular views Maroon Bells, which measure 4,267 m (14,000 ft) high. Admire the surrounding landscapes of valleys filled with aspen and fir trees. Picturesque Maroon Lake formed from glaciers during the Ice Age sits below the peaks. For the more serious alpinists, take the trail to Crate Lake, 2.4 km (1.5 mi) beyond Maroon Lake. Shuttle buses run daily to the mountains; vehicle access is allowed but be prepared to pay a fee.
