Steepletop, also known as the Edna St. Vincent Millay House, was the farmhouse home of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay and her husband Eugene Jan Boissevain, in Austerlitz, New York, United States. Her former home and gardens are maintained by the Edna St. Vincent Millay Society, a nonprofit organization that also holds the rights to the poet's intellectual property. Steepletop was declared a National Historic Landmark on November 11, 1971.Add Steepletop and other attractions to your Austerlitz trip itinerary using our Austerlitz travel route planner.
The Millay Colony for the Arts, founded by Norma Millay Ellis, sister of the poet and heir to her estate, is located on an adjacent plot of land. In 1973, it was established as a separate nonprofit organization from the Edna St. Vincent Millay society (aka, "Millay Society").
The name Steepletop comes from a pink, conical wildflower that grows there. The Society opened the house for tours in 2010.

Wonderful place, the home of poetess Edna St. Vincent Millay for the latter 25 years of her life. "Vincent," so-called by her friends, was one of the few poets in history to achieve the popularity of modern rock stars, deserved it, and deserves a revival of interest. Visit her home, commune with her spirit, and imbibe the venue where many of her greatest works were composed.
