Esther's Follies is a modern-day vaudeville theatre located on 6th Street in downtown Austin, Texas. The group is named after actress Esther Williams. Acts incorporate magic, juggling, singing, dancing, and sketches on current events. The show is fast-paced, and most of the acts incorporate a comedic theme.

The show lasts about one and a half hours with a short intermission, and runs every evening from Thursday to Saturday. The original Esther's Follies building burned down in 1982; the group traveled to several different locations before establishing its current home on 6th Street. 2017 marked Esther's Follies' 40th anniversary of performances. The cast has changed significantly since its inception but still includes the founders, Michael Shelton and Shannon Sedwick, who continue to make appearances during the show. Austin counterculture figure Kerry Awn was a regular performer with Esther's Follies for 30 years until 2011.

  • Enjoyed our 7pm show last night at Esther’s Follies, a vaudeville show filled with political satire, magic, current events, and lots of singing. The cast of characters played numerous roles, both onstage, and on the sidewalk looking into the theater. We purchased tickets well in advance and our seats had our last names on half sheets of paper. The audience seats rise toward the back so everyone is able to have unobstructed views. There was a minor in the audience (2nd or 3rd row). When the magician spotted him and when learning that the boy was 13, announced to the cast that he was NOT changing his act. There is innuendo and such, but not uncomfortable. We really enjoyed the show. Their timing is impeccable, their voices strong, and they make the audience feel a part of the show. There is a bar inside and a taqueria attached so it’s possible to get a bite to eat and drink and bring them into the theater. Ninety-minute show with a very brief intermission. Would go back next time I’m in town.
  • What a treat of laughs in the midst of the reality madness. Everything was spot on the flow organization. Which is necessary as soon one walks into the theater’s fascinating lobby. The piano aquarium is an example. The seats are assigned, so make your ticket arrangement with consideration. Light refreshments are available, but due to the compact space might be challenging.
