  • The permanent collection here is the best in Austin (says this layman)! From the classics to modern weirdness all in a really nice setting. Downstairs are special exhibitions that are usually pretty interesting. Third Thursday of each month they stay open late, have free admission and usually some sort of performance. Highly recommended!
  • Modest museum with broad collection. Nothing mind-blowing. The place is in the unfortunate position of serving as the premier art museum in a city whose institutions have not kept up with growth, and anyone claiming the Blanton is world-class probably hasn't left Central Texas, but the staff does a great job with what they have. It's worth a visit, but for tourists -- especially those coming from major US cities or from Europe -- I wouldn't put it high on the list. Museum events, including the "Third Thursday" evening programming, make excellent dates for cultured types, and I highly recommend UT students take advantage of free admission to unwind regularly between classes by wandering the galleries. The temporary exhibits can be fun, though you're unlikely to check off boxes on a major-artworks bucket list.
  • Definitely a must go if you are in Austin! Great price for all the work you get to see. This is a museum with many different works. You can take pictures and there are even lots of places to sit. Check all the corners because sometimes there is art that is kind of hidden in the hallways or dark rooms!
  • This far exceeded my expectations. We really enjoyed the aborigine exhibit. The stories accompanying the paintings were fascinating. This is been on my list of places to go in Austin for almost 7 years. Glad we finally made it. The collection of art was way more extensive than I would have thought and we spent a couple of hours walking room to room. I brought my kids, they are 12. When we were done we headed across the way to do the free craft. Excellent afternoon adventure!
  • My art museum! I love this place! Always comforting to get to see so much amazing work in one location. Love the permanent exhibition of abstract art, and the art from around the world. Usually whatever is going on downstairs is cool too. Love the student and military discounts. It means a lot to be in Austin and acknowledged in a positive way for my service.
