The Broken Spoke reviews
Had a great meal here in this iconic venue. After the food we went into the dance hall and it was great to listen to the music and watch everyone doing the Texan two step - and having a go... more »
This place is so cool! It is like the heart of Texas mashed into a small country dance hall. They even have a museum with all sorts of cool stuff in it and tons of photos of celebrities and popular people who have stopped in to visit this hot spot. When we walked in the owner was there and told us about the dance "classes" that his daughter holds there on certain days of the week an hour before the dancing starts. So to all the beginners, you don't have to feel intimidated! Just come an hour early and grab a free lesson from the owner's daughter before you get your party on! They had a couple of teeny tiny pool tables and even told us they serve food but we didn't get a chance to try any. Maybe next time. I can't wait to come here on a weekend to check out what it's all about. What a great bunch .. so friendly and hospitable!
This is definitely different than what I normally call a country bar/dance hall. Several locals told me this was the place to go for country dancing. Before reading further, some background info... I'm from Houston, and country dancing here is just a little bit different. I say this to avoid the trolls looking for an argument with me on this review. My wife and I tried this place and at first I personally liked the scene. There was live music and people actually dancing on the floor. First thing I noticed when paying the cover charge was the "NO LINE DANCING RULE" posted on the register. Then when we actually went in to dance, the dance floor was chaotic. In Houston, everyone moves in a CCW motion on the dance floor to keep from bumping into each other. Here, it was just random movement, I had to stop several times to stop from crashing into someone. Mostly a lot of drunks on the floor trying to have a good time dancing however they wish. IF you are looking for the "Houston" type of dancing, (same thing you would see if you did a YouTube search), this is prob not the place. 9/28/2019 11PM Saturday.
