The Avon Fishing Pier opened its doors in 1963 and was the final pier to be built on Hatteras Island. The Avon Fishing Pier is world famous with its many record catches, especially with the giant Red Drum that frequent the waters. Fishing is also made easy, as anglers are not required to purchase a fishing license. Everything you need for a day of fishing can be found at the Avon Pier. All you need to do is stop by for a fun day of fishing or sightseeing and make once in a lifetime memories on the OBX.Use our Hatteras Island trip itinerary maker tool to visit Avon Fishing Pier on your trip to Hatteras Island, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.
Avon Fishing Pier reviews
2/3 of the pier is open. There were many people fishing & just enjoying the view. There are beverages there for purchase or take your cooler. more »
Under construction at the moment so the pier is closed, however looking at the pier from the beach beside is very nice. It’s quite a pretty view, hopefully when it’s open again I can come. more »
This is right in the ocean! How awesome is that? And you can fish there! Or watch people fish. Or just sit! The gift shop has cool stuff and the prices are reasonable, considering. Now, some place like this is not my normal review. No windows. But then, as I watched the sunset and remembered the sunrise earlier that day (it took place at dawn), I realized that this place had THE PERFECT lighting! No curtains needed! Always the perfect light! Regardless of the time of day, irrelevant of the weather, time of year, day or even your mood! Standing on the pier, you will soon see that the light is perfect, no matter the situation.
The pier is not only for fishing. For a small fee you can walk out in the pier. I have had success at all times of the day here. The locals are informative and will always know what fish are biting that day. I recommend the pier since surf fishing can be a hassle when the beach is busy!
