Bulls Island Ferry, Awendaw

It was a wonderful boat trip! Very impressive! The captain and ranger were very professional and we got to see a bald eagle hunting a great blue heron up close. The mosquitoes on the island are very plentiful!

We had a great day at Bulls Island! We made the hike to the beach in 45 minutes as advertised, but the allure of - and further hike to - the boneyard made us stay longer for the next ferry. Believe what you read about the mosquitoes, if you leave the 'roads' for the trails you will be eaten! Thanks to our awesome captain- and mate-naturalists for teaching us the difference between conch and whelk, how whelk pry open clams, the intricate steps of blue crab reproduction, and the importance of salt marsh estuary conservation. This was our favorite part of our visit to Charleston!
